Ambient, adaptive vocabulary learning for Windows
A private Windows application that uses desktop wallpapers and lightweight recall prompts to help vocabulary become part of everyday life.

able to recover quickly after difficulty or change
“A resilient memory grows stronger each time it is recalled.”
Vocab works around your day instead of demanding a study session. A word first appears on your wallpaper for calm, repeated exposure. Later, a small recall prompt asks your memory to do the work.
The experience is powered locally, paced by your responses, and backed by Lexicon—a structured language foundation that makes each word richer than a definition card.
Words become part of the environment you already return to, without another tab, streak, or session.
After exposure, a lightweight prompt asks you to retrieve the meaning instead of simply seeing it again.
Vocab adjusts timing and daily volume from your responses while your learning history stays on your device.
Word appears
A word surfaces naturally on your desktop wallpaper—no tap, no open, no session required.
Encounter naturally
You encounter the word as part of your regular environment, not as a study interruption.
Recall prompt
A lightweight recall check asks your memory to retrieve the meaning—active retrieval that strengthens long-term memory.
You respond
Your answer—remembered, forgotten, or uncertain—feeds into the scheduling model entirely on your device.
Future adapts
Timing, volume, and review format adjust automatically to your performance over time.
Vocab strengthens one part of the learning system: repeated exposure and retrieval.
Vocab records whether a word was remembered, forgotten, or uncertain. It uses that history to adjust when the word returns, how frequently new words appear, and which review format is most appropriate.
The scheduling model operates entirely on-device. It does not upload your learning history or require cloud inference to personalize intervals.
Over time, the system learns your personal rhythm—not through surveillance, but through the natural pattern of your recall outcomes.
The core learning loop avoids telemetry, cloud inference, and live dictionary calls. Your data remains on your device.
Windows 10 and later
Standard Windows installer
Lightweight local SQLite database
Runs quietly in the background; optional launch on login
Wallpaper modification can be disabled at any time
Fully functional without internet connection
Recall prompts via native Windows notifications
Manual or automatic; no forced upgrades
Vocab is designed to respect attention, preserve privacy, and grow from individual words into connected language knowledge.
Learning should fit the day without maximizing screen time, notifications, or engagement for its own sake.
Seeing creates familiarity; well-timed retrieval helps turn familiarity into durable memory.
Meanings, senses, pronunciation, examples, and word families matter more than isolated cards.
The core learning loop remains fast and private without telemetry, cloud inference, or live dictionary calls.
Generated material may assist learning, but sourced language knowledge remains traceable and in control.
The learning environment evolves alongside the knowledge system beneath it.
Strengthen the wallpaper-to-recall loop and make everyday exposure quiet, consistent, and effortless.
Personalize intervals, pacing, and review modes using interaction signals that stay on the device.
Use richer language relationships to reduce confusion and create relevant paths through vocabulary.
Vocab is currently a working Windows prototype. Public testing is not yet available, but development is open and transparent on GitHub.
